Yup, this is the season of the QUEEN, when the Sun is in Leo, the Lion(ess), ruler of the jungle! And she got a little extra boost with the powerful Aquarius Full Moon on August 11th, lighting up her castle with that sassy, rebellious, “gotta be me” Aquarian energy.
With all the heaviness in the world swirling around us, I could use a BIG dose of that right now, how about you?
You got a taste of the Queen archetype if you made it to my New Moon Circle on July 28th… if not, you can check out my Leo New Moon article at the Wellness Universe. Basically, She calls on us to step into our full sovereignty – our power and authority — with courage and confidence. It means giving yourself permission to celebrate yourself, to practice self-love, to “brag on” yourself, to own all that’s fabulous, regal, and sensational about YOU!
So where did the Queen come from?
In women’s spirituality, women’s life cycles have been approached by looking at the three “blood mysteries” — menarche, childbirth, and menopause. And, in cultures all over the world, the Divine Feminine has been presented in the form of the Triple Goddess — Kali in India, Cerridwin in ancient Ireland, Sumerian Astarte, and Egyptian Maat are a few. The face of the Maiden approaching menarche is one of sweet innocence; the Mother (obviously associated with the mystery of childbirth) embodies the nurturing aspect; the Crone (whose rite is menopause) represents wisdom.
But in recent years as life spans have lengthened, feminist scholars and theologians have introduced a new phase, in between the mothering years and old age. It is called alternately — amazon, queen, enchantress, matriarch, priestess, guardian. I sooo resonate with the Queen FemType as do many of the vibrant women I know who are “of a certain age” — that’s me in the photo above, in my Queening ritual on my 40th birthday!
