Harness the power of this Full Moon in Capricorn!
This is my birthday month — it was on June 28th and let me tell you, it’s been a pretty tumultuous “greater birthday period”. Take a close look at this amazing fountain from the High Line in NYC of women and children crying and you’ll get a hint of where I was.
Between the Supreme Court decisions on Roe v. Wade and gun control, on top of the revelations from the January 6th hearings and the ongoing horror of the Ukraine war, I’ve been feeling pretty numbed out and devastated. I marveled at the eloquence and passion of many of my friends in their newsletters and social media posts, while I just felt speechless and hopeless.
The fog began to lift after I tuned in to an online “Emergency Town Hall” presented by the ACLU and heard their legal team offer some powerful reminders. Here are a few that stayed with me (paraphrasing somewhat):
“Hope does not lead to action. Action leads to hope.”
““History shows that when the Court’s decisions are out of step with where the majority of the country is and that majority rises up with protests, changes in state laws, etc, there is a correction”.
“Spectatorship leads to fatalistic thinking.” (a cousin of #1, I think…certainly where I was.)
Holding grief and rage
Wow — all of those really helped to kick my numb butt into action. I went to their website and a few others, and made donations (see below). I went back and read some of the avalanche of pieces that had come through my inbox that I just couldn’t read earlier so I could be more educated.
Then, I had dinner with my dear friend Eva that night and realized (duh) that I’d actually been in a deep state of grieving and it was important to honor the sadness, too. I can hold my anger and passion AND my sadness together — I KNOW this, just needed the time to be in the depths first.
Align with the Capricorn/Cancer Full Moon energy
In fact, that’s one of the things I love about climbing into the Full Moon energy each month to write my Deb’s Picks newsletter — it’s all about honoring the dynamic opposition of two powerful cosmic bodies, the Sun and the Moon. This month, the Moon is in Capricorn which is all about persistence, discipline, taking responsibility, and creating a powerful foundation for whatever we create an intention around. And the water-y Cancer Sun (my birth sign) reminds us to tap into our nurturing, sensitive, intuitive selves while we do that.
Not to mention that, in astrology, Cancer typically symbolizes the MOTHER… and here we are in this charged moment in history to fight for women’s rights and their choice to bear children or not.
So some powerful ways to integrate the Capricorn/Cancer combo on this Full Moon might be to ground our emotions in action, to practice emotional integrity, and to remember to surround ourselves and others in a space of persistent, consistent compassion. I’m working on that… will you join me?
I hope this month’s Picks help you find your voice, too, and of course, you can always join my Full Moon TeleMeditation next Wednesday for an extra boost as well — call-in info is in the sidebar below.
Rise up!
DEB’S PICKS:
ACLU ABORTION ACTIVIST SERIES
I don’t think I need to give you an overview of the ACLU – everyone has heard of it. But did you know that they have more than 1.7 million members, 500 staff attorneys, and thousands of volunteer attorneys to fight for our individual rights? Just click on the link above to register for this 5-session series. And if you want to listen to the same Town Hall on the fight for abortion access that galvanized me, you can click HERE. In that call, they also provided THIS LINK so you can support more than 80 local abortion funds across the country. And of course, you can also just donate monthly to the ACLU itself. Let’s do this!
ROB BREZSNY’S NEWSLETTER -ABORTION RIGHTS ISSUE
I’ve shared this newsletter here before… Rob is technically an astrologer, but also is one of the most creative, brilliant philosophers I’ve ever read. This issue is all that, along with a HUGE list of resources to get you informed and galvanized. Click on the photo to read it and be sure to subscribe to his future newsletters, too!
2022 WOMEN’S CONVENTION Houston, TX August 12-14
This looks amazing – billed as a “weekend of workshops, strategy sessions, inspiring forums, creative expression, & intersectional movement building… to create an empowered space of feminist momentum.” The Convention will be organized into 6 tracks: Campaigning; Non-Partisan Electoral Strategy; Lobbying; Mobilizing; Narrative; Organizing. I can’t go, but hopefully some of you can and will report back! You can click HERE to register or donate.
V-DAY CITY OF JOY
If you know me at all, you know that the founder of VDay, One Billion Rising, and City of Joy in the Congo, V (formerly Eve Ensler), is one of my sheros. I read her most recent newsletter as I was emerging from my numb-funk and it was another one of those inspiring pieces that reminded me of the power of taking grounded action with fierce compassion. Click on the City of Joy link to read that newsletter and learn more about her powerful work.
DEB’S PROFONDE.TV INTERVIEW WITH PHYLLIS HAYNES
I’ve been in awe of Phyllis for years, ever since I “won” an interview with her at a coaching conference 10+ years ago. Since then, I’ve been in a bunch of different groups with her and watched as she’s masterfully facilitated speakers and audiences into a deeper, richer place of discussion. Read her recent article and you’ll get an idea of her brilliance! So when we re-connected in the last few months, I was thrilled when she offered to interview me for her podcast. Click on the link above to hear our conversation — one that I think is both grounded (Capricorn) and divine femininely-charged (Cancer), in the spirit of the upcoming Full Moon!
I hope you’ll check out some of these inspiring offerings and of course, I’d love to hear about ones you’ve found, too!
ADDENDEM (5-31-23)
I was sent this terrific article that talks about how to keep an abortion private, and wanted to share it with you. It offers practical advice and emotional support for women who are facing this difficult decision. You can find the resource here: https://www.vpnmentor.com/
