How to Use the New Moon in Gemini to Ramp Up Your Love Life

Gemini Lunar Love Magic!

Communicating deeply with the Gemini New Moon

Discover playful ways that Gemini’s Lunar Love Magic can enhance and deepen your communication.

Summer is so close you can almost taste it… the last of the frost is behind us, trees and flowers are bursting out all over, and finally, the beach vacation you planned for August doesn’t seem so far away!

Whether you’re looking forward to relaxing by the ocean or just sitting in the park on those lovely, light-filled evenings, summer is definitely a time to slow down, mellow out, and just play more. How perfect that the sociable, fun-loving Gemini cycle kicked in on May 20th and lasts until June 21st, laying the groundwork for planning those barbeques, beach parties, and weekend getaways with friends.

And the New Moon in Gemini on June 13th gives us an extra cosmic bump to set our intentions to bring those plans, ideas and actions to fruition. (You can read more about how to use powerful New Moon energy in my article, Lunar Love Magic for Every Month of the Year.)

Are you ready to maximize that energy for yourself? And maybe with your partner? I’ll show you how to assemble your magical Gemini New Moon toolkit, set up your lunar love nest, and create a few fun activities. Then, maybe you’ll be able to conjure up some on your own or with your favorite playmate!

Qualities of the New Moon in Gemini

Let’s begin by taking a closer look at exactly what Gemini energy feels like. First, it’s an Air sign which is all about the mind and our powers of perception. It’s ruled by the planet Mercury (in Greek mythology he was the messenger of the gods) and that really highlights its connection to communication of all kinds – speaking, writing, teaching, you name it. Some other Gemini traits are quick-witted, curious, versatile, and flighty.

When the Moon is in Gemini, you may feel compelled to EXPRESS yourself about everything, the good, the bad and ugly. So while it may not be the sexiest of all the signs when it comes to romping in the bedroom with your lover (like last month’s sensual Taurus New Moon), it’s a powerful time to really communicate with each other about what’s most important in your relationship – what you love about each other, what you’d like more or less of, and what new commitments you want to make going forward.

If you’re single, it’s a great time to get very clear about the kind of person you want to attract, and I mean writing it down, speaking it out loud, letting your friends know. The universe won’t know who to send you if you don’t make a clear request, and New Moons are the best time to declare your intentions and make your relationship wishes!

 Assembling your magical Gemini toolkit

The next step is to look at all the fun associations for Gemini energy – here are some to get you started:

Elemental energy – Air

Colors – yellow, green

Gemstones – agate, emerald

Flowers – lily of the valley, lavender

Essential Oils – rosemary and basil to stimulate the mind, bergamot and peppermint to enhance communication, and you can find others here.

Music – flutes, woodwinds… one of my favorites is Joanie Madden’s Song of the Irish Whistle and or you can check out this collection of classical flute recordings.)

Food/Drink –  fresh fruits and vegies; sparkling cider or wine; “brain food”, like blueberries, avocados or dark chocolate (love that one!)

When to activate Gemini lunar energy

I’ve already given you a bunch of ideas about where to practice your Gemini love magic, and what to take with you, so now let’s look at some specific things to do.

But first, a caveat: if you really want to work with the intention-setting, “planting seeds” energy of the New Moon itself, it’s best to do it within 3 days of the actual date of the Gemini New Moon which is June 13th. And if either you and/or partner are a Gemini by birth, or if your moon is in Gemini, you’ll get a nice double whammy of Gemini New Moon energy whatever you decide to do!

One other thing to keep in mind is that the Moon also spends 3 days in each sign of the zodiac every month, so you could check a lunar calendar to find out when it’s in your favorite sign and focus your magical moon activities around that time.

How to use Gemini’s New Moon energy to find true love

If you’re single and not currently in a relationship but want to be, here’s a little ritual to send your relationship wishes out to the universe:

1) set your magical stage with some of the colors, essential oils, food and music in your Gemini toolkit.

2) Pull out a journal (or just a piece of pretty paper) and write down all of the qualities you’re looking for in a partner. A powerful exercise I do with my single clients is to have them articulate these three things:

  • what are your requirements or deal breakers? (like honesty, shared values, trust)
  • what are your needs or the things you’d be willing to negotiate? (pets, where to live, being organized?)
  • what are your “wouldn’t it be nices”? (maybe flowers every week or tons of money!)

Remember, what’s a requirement for one person might not be for someone else. For instance, I always knew that I wanted someone who was very touchy and affectionate… and after 37+ years together, my husband and I still hold hands and sleep spooned. But I’ve coached couples where that level of closeness just feels claustrophobic. Be honest with yourself and be clear about what’s right for you, not what you think you “should” want.

3) After you’ve written all this down, you can draw on that air-y Gemini magic in a few ways to broadcast your request:

  • Transfer all of those qualities on to some biodegradable confetti, go to a lake, beach or river and let the wind carry them into the water… it’s like making a wish on a dandelion puffball!
  • Carve them on to a candle and burn it down – another version of fire-y Aries love magic
  • Write your requirements, needs, and wants on a beautiful piece of paper and post it somewhere that you can read every day.

And obviously, it’s pretty powerful to do all three. The idea is to create a clear vision of what you want – like a neon sign to the universe so it knows just who to send you!

Enhance your relationship with Gemini’s New Moon energy

Whenever I teach or speak about the power of ritual in our lives (the subject of my Masters thesis many years ago), I talk about the four basic elements that must be present to ensure that it’s truly transformative:

1) declare a clear intention – that’s our theme, enhancing communication

2) activate all your senses – those associations in your toolkit will help here

3) use meaningful symbols – also in your toolkit

4) create sacred space and time – be sure to find a private space where you won’t be interrupted and make sure you have all of your props and tools from your toolkit — music, food, flowers, etc. — before you start.

Gemini energy may not feel very sexy since it’s all about the mind, but the truth is, if you want a deep, fulfilling relationship, you can’t live without it. As my parents used to say when asked what the three most important qualities were for a successful longterm marriage (they were married for 45 years before my dad died), “communication, communication, communication”.

To really tap into that air-y, chatty Gemini energy, that could be just planning an intimate dinner together, sitting face to face with no distractions… that means no cellphones or TVs nearby!

You might even consider a theme-inspired trip to deepen your communication Gemini-style – maybe it’s one of those powerful relationship building weekends offered by Imago Relationships International or John Gottman.

Or, to tap into the intellectual side of Gemini, you can research some of the wonderful “educational” trips offered by Roads Scholar and the Smithsonian on a topic that interests you both. And just because you’ll be stimulating your brains during the day doesn’t mean you can’t stimulating each other in OTHER ways in the evenings!

You might start off with a Gemini-themed romantic dinner … and be sure to include “bubbly” of some kind, either champagne or sparkling cider, to further activitate the AIR element!

Since this one is all about communication, you can also opt for some throat chakra essential oils, maybe even giving each other a little neck and shoulder massage to get those vocal cords primed. And to get really literal about your music, check out Wordplay by Jason Mraz or Talk by Coldplay – be creative!

Time for pillow talk

Now you can move to the bedroom, or at least a snuggly couch, where you can create your lunar love nest in all the ways suggested above and start to play with a bunch of different ideas:

1) write love letters to each other, then read them out loud.

2) take turns sharing what relationship expert John Gottman calls the “Story of Us” – a history of how you met and how you’ve gotten to where you are today.

3) if you’re married, create your own mini vow renewal ceremony by writing or speaking your promises and commitments to each other from this day forward.

4) if you’re not married but seriously coupled, talk about ways that you can deepen your connection and improve your communication. Acknowledge some of your triggers and patterns and commit to exploring new ways to express yourselves.

And if you really want to kick it all up a notch, consider experimenting with the Communication Map process, a powerful exercise I learned when I was doing my training with the Relationship Coaching Institute. It’s actually helpful to use with any relationship, and you can start practicing with each other in your Gemini love nest for maximum effect.

There are so many directions to go when you’re playing with New Moon energy, and when you direct it to your love life, it’s even more fun and transformative. It definitely takes some preparation (I always talk about the “schlep” factor when I’m preparing for rituals), but it’s totally worth the effort. Can see why I call it “sacred play”?

I hope you’ll join me next month when we explore Cancer New Moon energy to create more powerful lunar love magic. In the meantime, I’d love to hear what new insights and thoughtful commuication ideas emerge from your Gemini New Moon magic – email me and let me know!
