Embracing the New Moon in Taurus for Sensual Lunar Love Magic!

Sensual love magic

Yummy tips & techniques to spice up your love life, Taurus-style

“It’s May, it’s May the lusty month of May…”  Guinevere, new queen of “Camelot”, certainly knew what she was singing about – definitely check out those words from the iconic musical.  Dancing around the Maypole, creating May baskets, crowning the Queen and King of the May… all of those traditions capture the original meaning of May Day: lust, flowers, running into the woods to make whoopee – what’s not to love?!

And how convenient that the New Moon in Taurus, that earthy, body-loving sign, always falls around this time, too. New Moons in general are great times to plant seeds for the ideas, plans, and actions we want to grow over the coming weeks as the Moon itself waxes towards full again. (You can read more about how to use powerful New Moon energy in my article, Lunar Love Magic for Every Month of the Year.) When you combine that with the energy of May Day, you’ve got a perfect recipe to embody the baudy, exuberant, exhilarating buzz of spring fever.

Are you ready to maximize that energy for yourself? And maybe with your lover? I’ll show you how to assemble your magical New Moon toolkit, set up your lunar love nest, and create a few playful activities. Then, maybe you’ll be able to conjure up some on your own or with your sweetie!

Taurus New Moon qualities

Let’s begin by taking a closer look at exactly what Taurus energy feels like – yes, it’s earthy and sensual, but some other characteristics are practical, sensible, generous, indulgent, grounded, and patient. When the Moon is in Taurus, you may be more focused on physical pleasures and feel deeply drawn to create beauty around you. And did I mention that Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus, also the goddess of love? How can you not capitalize on this perfect storm of sensuous Lunar Love Magic this month!

Assembling your magical Taurus toolkit

The next step is to look at all the fun associations for Taurus energy – here are some to get you started:

Elemental energy – Earth

Colors – greens, pink (Iike all those flowering trees!)

Gemstones — emerald, rose quartz

Flowers – rose (symbol of love and beauty), tulips, daffodils

Essential Oils – rose, ylang-ylang

Music – drumming, sultry love songs

Food/Drink –  rich and/or sweet foods; full-bodied wines

And if you really want to pack your toolkit to the brim, you could also research Taurus-themed movies, books, clothes, animals, places in nature… the list is endless, depending on what you and your partner are drawn to explore.

Setting up your Taurus love nest

Whether you’re creating this special lunar love space for yourself or with a partner, be sure to follow a few basic ground rules: find a private space where you won’t be interrupted, turn off your phone (and any other nearby screens), and make sure you have all of your props and tools from your toolkit — music, food, flowers, etc. — before you start.

Your sacred love-space could be anywhere, depending on what you plan to do there. To really tap into that earthy Taurus energy, literally and figuratively, find a place in nature… spread a blanket in the back yard, plan a romantic walk through the woods, or head into a nearby park with a picnic basket. And if you’ve enticed your partner to play with you, of course, the bedroom is always a perfect place.

You might even consider a theme-inspired trip to nourish your bodies Taurus-style – a spa weekend, sumptuous dinner, a hiking vacation with lots of yummy self-care at the end of the day. The idea is to make it as nature-connected and/or body-loving as possible to get that maximum hit of Taurus energy.

Conjuring up playful and/or powerful Taurus activities

I’ve already give you a bunch of ideas about where to practice your Taurus magic, and what to take with you, so now let’s look at some specific things to do.

But first, a caveat: if you really want to work with the intention-setting, “planting seeds” energy of the New Moon itself, it’s best to do it within 3 days of the actual date which is May 15th. But the Sun is in Taurus from April 21stt until May 20th, so you can tap into it to a lesser degree anytime during that period, too.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if either you and/or partner are a Taurus by birth, or if your moon is in Taurus, you’ll get a nice double whammy of Taurus New Moon energy whatever you decide to do!

Your own personal Taurus New Moon ritual to honor your body

First, create your sacred space with some of the tools from your toolkit – light a green or pink candle and place some roses or spring flowers nearby. Then, since Taurus is all about stimulating your senses, be sure to have some luscious food or drink nearby (maybe some chocolate-covered strawberries and rosé wine?) to tingle your taste buds. Put on some mellow, earthy drumming music and let it sink into your bones. Some of my favorites are David and Steve Gordon’s Sacred Spirit Drums, and Marina Raye’s Drumming into Paradise.

But perhaps the most powerful of all your senses is the sense of smell, or “olfaction”. That’s because your olfactory glands are directly connected to the limbic system, the part of your brain that activates your emotions and memories. So, if you really want to ground your Taurus work deeply in your being, burn some rose or ylang-ylang essential oil in your aromatherapy lamp.

Now that you’ve set your magical stage, what symbolic actions will you take to anchor your New Moon commitment to honor your body? One of my quintessential earthy activities is to take a mud bath! Or at the very least treat yourself to a clay face-mask. You can find great ready-made masks online. or blend your own or — check out the benefits of an Aztec clay mask for face and/or body…you’ll love it.

And to turn it into a real New Moon intention-setting ritual, try writing some of your body-nurturing commitments into the clay before it dries… more sleep? Regular pedicures? Maybe just drawing a heart to remind yourself to love your body? You’ve now basically carved your intentions on to your body and even when you wash away the clay, that tactile memory will remain.

Your special Taurus body-celebrating activity to create with your partner

Taurus energy is a perfect one to embody with a partner, even one who doesn’t get into all that New Moon “stuff”, cuz it’s all about sexuality and sensuality. Start your romantic evening with a sumptuous dinner at a favorite restaurant, or if you love to cook, try out some special Taurus recipes. Just don’t stuff yourself… Taurus energy will tempt you to over-indulge!

Create your lunar love nest in all the ways or places suggested above, or can you can head to the bedroom or bathroom and have pink candles and roses sprinkled around, with sultry music playing – you can never go wrong with Barry White, or Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed and Delivered is a great one to celebrate your commitment to each other.

So, if you’ve chosen your bedroom as your preferred Taurus love nest, what could be more sensual than dual body massages? You can really go to town with this one – drop some of those special essential oils into your favorite lotion, explore some sexy edible body dusts, or just dribble hot chocolate over each other and lick it off!

And once you make it to the bathroom after creating a sexy mess, bring that full-body clay mask with you into the bathtub and spread it over each other. Only this time, write what you love about each other into the clay… doesn’t it just give you the shivers to imagine that?

There are so many directions to go when you’re playing with New Moon energy. It definitely takes some preparation, but ultimately, it’s just a fun way to go beyond the more “traditional” New Moon goal-setting practices… can you see why I call it “sacred play”?
