Tap into the Gemini New Moon energy to add sparkle to your mind and conversations

Yaaay – we’re finally right on the cusp of summer! Whether you’re looking forward to relaxing by the ocean or just sitting in the park on those lovely, light-filled evenings, summer is definitely a time to slow down, mellow out, and just play more. How perfect that the sociable, fun-loving Gemini cycle kicked in on May 20th and lasts until June 21st, laying the groundwork for planning those barbeques, beach parties, and weekend getaways with friends.

And the New Moon in Gemini on May 30th gives us an extra cosmic bump to set our intentions to bring those plans, ideas and actions to fruition.

Qualities of the New Moon in Gemini

Let’s begin by taking a closer look at exactly what Gemini energy feels like. First, it’s an Air sign which is all about the mind and our powers of perception. It’s ruled by the planet Mercury (in Greek mythology he was the messenger of the gods) and that really highlights its connection to communication of all kinds – speaking, writing, teaching, you name it. Some other Gemini traits are quick-witted, curious, versatile, and flighty.

When the Moon is in Gemini, you may feel compelled to EXPRESS yourself about everything, the good, the bad and ugly. Even if you don’t feel like you’re much of a poet or writer or teacher, this is a great time to explore new ways to communicate what’s important to you. Whether it’s standing on a soap box or writing in your journal, take some time to tap into your inner well of inspiration and see what’s bubbling there, waiting to be expressed!

With any intentional New Moon work, it’s always helpful to know which symbols and associations to draw on.

Here are a few ideas to get you started in creating your very own magical Gemini toolkit:

Elemental energy – Air

Colors – yellow, green

Gemstones – agate, emerald

Flowers – lily of the valley, lavender

Essential Oils – rosemary and basil to stimulate the mind, bergamot and peppermint to enhance communication.

Music – flutes, woodwinds… one of my favorites is Joanie Madden’s Song of the Irish Whistle and or you can check out this collection of classical flute recordings.)

Food/Drink –  fresh fruits and vegies; sparkling cider or wine; “brain food”, like blueberries, avocados or dark chocolate (love that one!)

Four ways embrace the Gemini New Moon’s powerful energy

To enhance your experience with any of these ideas, definitely surround yourself with all the props and tools from your Gemini toolkit!

 1) Re-connect with your Inner Muse – pull out your journal and do some free-form writing. Come up with some interesting questions to explore and let your imagination flow in response. You could also try writing with your non-dominant hand. When you write with your non-dominant hand, you’re so focused on forming the letters that your ego can’t interfere with the inspiration that is coming in.

2) Open up a deep conversation with your partner — Gemini energy may not feel very sexy since it’s all about the mind, but the truth is, if you want a deep, fulfilling relationship, you can’t live without it. As my parents used to say when asked what the three most important qualities were for a successful long-term marriage (they were married for 45 years before my dad died), “communication, communication, communication.” You could start by giving each other a little neck and shoulder massage with some throat chakra essential oils to get those vocal cords primed!

3) Throw a party! Sociable Gemini loves to entertain friends, and to connect their various circles with each other. Invite a bunch of your favorite people who may not know each other and create some fun “ice-breaker” games. You should definitely check out Priya Parker’s book and website, The Art of Gathering for some really unique and thought-provoking ways to engage groups with each other.

4) Plan an educational roadtrip — Tap into the intellectual side of Gemini and research some of the wonderful “educational” trips offered by Roads Scholar and the Smithsonian on a topic that interests you. Do your homework ahead of time and really use it as a way to explore some new horizons. Or if you’ve rather stay closer to home, do some “arm-chair” traveling and look for interesting series or documentaries on the Discovery Channel or Netflix.

There are so many directions to go when you’re playing with any New Moon energy, and with the Gemini New Moon on May 30th, your lunar-inspired activities can propel you to new heights of self-expression and learning.
